Book: Every Dark Shadow

This book, as described by the author as well, can be classified as Shadow and Bone magic meets ACOTAR found-family. Definitely gives Six of Crows vibes in my opinion.

Every Dark Shadow is so intricate and wonderfully written for a debut novel. The magic system is incredibly flushed out, the settings are perfectly described, and the bonds between the characters are beautiful.

As previously stated, the magic definitely gives Shadow and Bone/Grishaverse vibes with the different classifications. There are people who alter matter, people who control different elements, and even the light vs. dark aspect. The way that the magic is used is also similar, without being a copy and paste. It’s clear to see where the inspiration came from, while still remaining original.

Now for the characters. Every Dark Shadow follows our four main characters, with a large cast of side characters, mentors, and villains, and every one of them stands out.

Ophelia is our FMC, the supposed savior of this world, who has had her memories burried and her true identity is being hidden from her in the start of the novel while she hides out in the mortal world. Beside her throughout the novel are her three “keepers”, Falcon, Rune, and Hart. Each of these boys holds a special, seperate space in Ophelia’s heart, for different reasons. They each have their own motivations for agree to be her keepers and protect her while her memories remain burried, until the time comes for her to embrace her destiny.

Now is the perfect time to pick up this series if you haven’t already! The next book, Every Thread of Light releases in Hardback, Paperback, and on KU on March 25,2025!

The author herself advertises this novel as perfect for fans of The Night Circus, Titanic, The Great Gatsby, and The Midnight Library. It blends suspense and fantasy in this magical, paranormal story. You’ve been invited to board The Fated, a potentially magical ship, setting out for paradise, aka Destination Unknown. But watch out, things aren’t exactly as they may seem.

I deespreately don’t want the lower rating for this book to deter you from checking it out! I really, really enjoyed reading this book, there were just certain aspects of the book that weren’t for me, and that’s okay. It’s still a great book, and I would definitely still recommend it to others, it just wasn’t fully for me.

One thing that I absolutely loved with this book was the atmosphere. Everything was so vivid and well described, without being too much, it felt like I was really walking through this magical, fantastical ship. Everything was so beautifully described and it made me wish that a ship like this existed so I could experience walking the halls for myself in person.

The flirting and budding romance between Amarra and Kye-Shin was so cute and I would have loved to see more of their romance grow and blossom into more, but I also understand that romance was not meant to be the main plot of the story, and I respect that. Still, it’s fun to imagine how it could’ve blossomed.

I loved the mystery/paranormal aspects of the story. Tryingt o figure out who/what was behind the passenger disappearances, and what was really going on behind the darker aspects of the ship was so fun (and creepy) to explore throughout the book. I loved trying to figure out mysteries and put together plot points as new information comes out, and this book gave me plenty of opportunites.

First five star read of the year!! Woohoo!
If you like Dark Acedamia, you will absolutely DEVOUR this book.

Alex and Ophelia are our MCs in this dual POV novel, and they are both amazing! They are also the love interests in an enemies-to-lovers plot. Some may categorize it as GrumpxGrumpy, but seeing Alex be all mushy and happy, dreaming of the future with Ophelia, and doing anything to make her smile is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. I’m a sucker for a good he-falls-first-and-harder trope. I could 1,000% see Alex becoming the next big BookTok sensation. He might be my new favorite Book Boyfriend. And Ophelia is such a sweetheart and I relate to her on a spiritual level (minus the dead parents, the stalker, and the college full of rich, power hungry mafia bosses in traning, of course).

And I can’t not mention my FAVORITE side character, Vincenzo! I LOVED him and would totally read a book where he is our leading man! I did not get nearly enough of my Italian mafia golden retriever, and I NEED to see more of him in the next book. I sincerely hope he gets a HEA at the end of this, or I will riot. The author has mentioned that if she decides to do the extra books after the duology for the side characters, Vincenzo’s story will be one of the books, so it gives me hope.

I went through so many thoeries while reading this book, but at every turn something new was thrown in that had me second-guessing. Although, I’m very proud to say that by mid-book I had established a theory that did end up coming true in the end. This book damn near had me pulling out the string and making my own evidence wall trying to piece these clue together.

If I could rate this books higher than 5 stars, 10/10, and two thumbs up, I would. It was absolutely incredible, and a book that I know is going to stay with me for a while.

Woven by Fate is the debut standalone novel by Autumn Hawthorne. While a standalone, it will be a part of an inter-connected world. It releases on Paperback and Kindle Unlimited on February 12, 2025.

This Sci-Fi-esque, Post-Earth, Romantasy book was honestly nothing like what I expected it to be, probably because it is such a hard book to fit into one specific category. It’s a hodge-podge of all the best aspects of so many different genres and types of books. It was such a fun read with emersive world building, and intricate magic system, and, of course, a swoon-worthy enemies-to-lovers plot.

Firstly, I would like to say that this book is definitely not for everyone. And that’s okay! Styx and Stones is a Hades and Persephone retelling. It’s classified as erotica, so she 🌶️spicy🌶️

One of the first thoughts I had, though I’m not proud of it, was if the author was just jumping on the bandwagon after the success of the popular series by Scarlett St. Clair. However I’m pleased to say that it seemed like the author had a lot of knowledge, or at least had done a lot of research, about Greek Mythology.🏛️

Not only were Hades and Persephone great characters, but the side characters were amazing too. I’m a sucker for great side characters they did not disappoint! Adonis was my favorite, and I have no doubt that I’m not alone in that feeling. I’d love to see more with his character in the future!🥰

I think that this was a really fun read! It was very well done, and wasn’t just about the spice, even though it’s classified as erotica. I wish I could say more about the plot and conflicts and all that, but no spoilers!

I’m definitely looking forward to seeing what the author does with future projects.

Reckless picks up a few days after where Powerless left off, which I felt was an interesting power-play by the author. We don’t see the slow descent into madness for Kitt, we jump right into him being a completely different character then we last saw, which is entirely more terrifying. We skip past Paedyn’s days being alone and nursing her wounds, both external and internal, and how that time alone is affecting her. The next time we see Kai, he is hardened, more so than before, with masks back up in full force after the betrayal and “loss” of his brother. We jump right back into the action, but these are not the characters we left behind.

It’s been a week since I finished this book, and it took me so long to write this review because in all honesty, I am still trying to process everything. This book emotionally DEVESTATED me, and I’m still not fully over it if I’m being honest, but I’m finally ready to sit down and spill my feeling out onto the page. (Much like Kitt with his letters, now that I think about it)

It’s been about a month since I saw Wicked and it’s still living rent free in my head 24/7! I’m still absolutely speechless…😶

I LOVE the Broadway Musical, I have since I was about 12. For anyone who doesn’t know, I was a major theater nerd growing up, and even had the opportunity to be in Wicked Jr, which is where my love for the show started!💚

I will admit, I was wary when I heard they were making a movie. I was worried they wouldn’t do it justice. But so far I can confidently say that they went above and beyond and exceeded every expectation I had.💖

I’m so beyond excited for Part 2 and I’m so happy to see a new group of Wicked fans joining the party after the movie’s release! FINALLY this amazing show is getting the love and recognition I’ve always known it deserved! And I love that all these non-theater kids and adults are finding a love and respect for the art!🥰

I’m a little late to the party reading this book, but that’s the life of a mood reader for you, I suppose. Regardless, this book was amazing!

Firstly, Paedyn and Kai🥰
I could gush about them all day long, so I’ll keep it short, but I loved their banter and relationship development throughout the book. It was so realistic and believable the way it all came about. Nothing about it felt forced or rushed. If they aren’t end game, I’ll actually cry😭

Secondly. because it needs to be talked about, the King🤢
Can we all agree that he’s giving some serious Hitler vibes here?😬

And finally, because I don’t want this to go on for too long, I’d like to bring up Kitt. I love him, I love his personality, and I swear on all that is good in this world that I will RAGE if he becomes the new Maven (if you know you know)😡

I’m a little late to the party reading this book, but that’s the life of a mood reader for you, I suppose. Regardless, this book was amazing!

Firstly, Paedyn and Kai🥰
I could gush about them all day long, so I’ll keep it short, but I loved their banter and relationship development throughout the book. It was so realistic and believable the way it all came about. Nothing about it felt forced or rushed. If they aren’t end game, I’ll actually cry😭

Secondly. because it needs to be talked about, the King🤢
Can we all agree that he’s giving some serious Hitler vibes here?😬

And finally, because I don’t want this to go on for too long, I’d like to bring up Kitt. I love him, I love his personality, and I swear on all that is good in this world that I will RAGE if he becomes the new Maven (if you know you know)😡

Lauren Roberts, thank you for emotionally destroying me. Somehow, I’m really looking forward to book 2, despite the trauma you have caused me!💜

Such a fun, holiday read!!🥰
The concept for this was so cool, especially since some of my favorite holiday movies growing up included Halloweentown and The Santa Clause, and this was definitely giving these kinda vibes!🎄🎃
Another book where the banter was INCREDIBLE! I loved Coal’s personality and sense of humor, especially as the book developed and his character arc was occurring. Watching him interact with Kris and Iris was everything!
My only big note for the book was I wish we could have seen some of Halloween. Hex’s parents were only in half of a chapter, his brothers were only ever mentioned, and other than brief glimpses of Hex’s powers, we never see anything Halloween. We know virtually nothing of their court and customs still. That was a bit disappointing.
Otherwise, a phenomenal book and a super fun read!😊

Such a fun book! I loved all the banter between the characters! It was a great read and perfect for Halloween, what with the serial killer aspects.🔪
I do wish that they had explored a bit more of Sloane’s background. I feel like there was still a lot of unanswered questions in that regard. Why did she have a bad relationship with her parents, how does Lark know about her “extracurricular activities”, how did Lark’s family become Sloane’s, to name a few.🫣
I look forward to reading the rest of the trilogy, just not right away. I think I’m going to be taking a small step away from the series to read some other books before diving into book two.
Overall, I really loved this book! The steamy slow burn was perfect! As was, as I said before, the banter! I’m a sucker for good bantering and this book did not disappoint in that aspect!🥰
