Book: Go Luck Yourself
Author: Sara Raasch
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐.75
Go Luck Yourself is the second book in the Royals and Romance series by Sara Raasch. The first book, The Nightmare before Kissmas was a TikTok sensation in late 2024 for blending Red, White, & Royal Blue with the Nightmare Before Christmas.
Go Luck Yourself was such a fun read, and I genuinely can't decide which of the two books I enjoyed more.
Firstly, let's start by talking about the characters we already know from book one; the Christmas Princes: Kris and Coal. Where book one followed Coal, this second book follows his younger brother, Kris, who always appeared to be the "put-together" one, despite being younger. However, following the events of book one, Coal is now thriving in his new role (which was so fun to see!), and Kris is left feeling like he doesn't have a purpose anymore now that he's not taking care of his brother. It was so interesting to see a new side of Kris, what's really going on in his head, and not the mask he presents to the world. I found myself relating to Kris alot in this book, and I thought that the author handled some very delicate topics (no spoilers) with grace, making for an incredible story line, even without the romace aspect.
Then we meet our love interest, Lochlan, the Prince of St. Patrick's Day. Loch was incredible. It was so nice to see the love interest going through their own drama, where Hex in book one seemed almost too good to be true. We love a good enemies-to-romance, and watchung these two's romance blossom was beautiful. Loch balanced Kris perfectly, allowing Kris to be soft and vulnerable when he needed to be, but not an overbearing dom.
Finally for the new character line-up, Loch's two younger sisters. They were so completely different from eachother, but somehow the family dynamic worked really well together. While they were minor characters, they definitely kept my attention and I would love to learn more about them. I'm curious to see what happens with the flirting Iris did with the older sister...
This story's villian fell short for me, as it seemed to be pretty much a copy and paste of Daddy Clause, but the new ways he went about things were diverse enough to keep my attention. Mainly, though, I was just curious about Loch's role in everything and how it would impact his budding romance with Kris.
One thing I was not expecting was for Mommy Clause to make a reappearance, even in mention, in this novel. I had thought that we had put that to rest in the first book, but I wasn't disappointed to see it come up again. I think we all knew at the end of book one that Kris wasn't completely past everything the way that Coal was, so it's only natural for it to be brought up again during Kris' book.
One thing I will say, was that for the book being from Kris' POV, with Kris always seeming to be so poetic as a book lover and wanna-be author, I expected his perspective to be a bit more poetic. There were definitely moments, don't get me wrong. I guess I just expected them to be more common throught the book.
Obviously, with a rating of nearly 5 stars, it's pretty safe to say that I loved this book! It's such a fun series so far, and I'm hoping (I'm not sure if any more books have been announced at this point) that we'll get to see more of this world and these characters!
