Book: Leather & Lark
Author: Brynne Weaver
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Leather & Lark is the second book in the Ruinous Love trilogy by Brynne Weaver.
Leather & Lark continued the same witty, romantic comedy feel for a book about serial killers, but this time, Brynne Weaver threw in some added broodiness as well, making for a perfectly balanced concoction.
I absolutely loved getting to see more of Lark and learning more of her background. If you remember from my review of Butcher & Blackbird, I had some questions in that regard after finishing the first book. I was so curious about Lark, her family, and how it tied into Sloane's journey to becoming a serial killer who hunts serial killers. I was so haoppy to get those questions answered in this book. And so happy to see that I was right about Lark being even better and more complex of a character than we were originally made to think in the first book. I mean, Lark being a secret serial killer as well? Absolute perfection.
And then we have the second half of our duo, Lochlan Kane. I have to admit, I was definitely curious about him as well at the end of B&B, but I didn't know what to expect with a whole book about him. Well, half, I guess, but still. Anyways, I'm happy to say that he exceeded my expectations. For how quiet and sulky he seemed in the first book, I never would have guessed at the sweethart residing under all that hardened armor.
If you know me, you know I love a good enemies-to-lovers, and this did not disappoint. The forced-proximity? The fake-marriage? All the good tropes done in such a great way. This book, like it's predecessor, was so much fun to read, with all the witty banter, as well as the spicier scenes mixed in.
I can't wait to move onto the third and final book in the trilogy, Scythe and Sparrow, which is out now and follows the final Kane brother, Fione, and our favorite circus girly, Rose. That cliff-hanger at the end of L&L has me a little worried about these two.
